Mianwali’s Voter Registration Surpasses National Average

Mianwali: The voter registration rate in Mianwali has reached 59% of its estimated 2025 population, surpassing the national average of 54%. This information highlights the district's active electoral engagement compared to other regions in the country.

According to Free and Fair Election Network, the data is sourced from district-wise electoral roll statistics released by the Election Commission of Pakistan on December 30, 2025. These figures are cross-referenced with population estimates based on the 2023 Digital Census. The methodology applies a 2.6% annual growth rate to the base population recorded in 2023, resulting in an estimated 2025 population of 1,892,994 for Mianwali. The district currently has 1.1 million registered voters, with males accounting for 52.2% and females for 47.8% of this number.

Mianwali ranks 49th out of 136 districts nationwide by population size, but its voter registration rate places it 23rd nationally and 14th out of 36 within the Punjab region. The discrepancy between the registration rate and the national average is attributed to the rules governing the 2023 Digital Census. These rules involved not enumerating household members absent for more than six months at their home address and recording previous household members at their current address, rather than their origin household.

Labour migration has significantly impacted Mianwali's voter registration figures. Many permanent residents have moved to urban centers such as Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad for employment and are registered as voters in Mianwali based on their permanent CNIC address, despite being enumerated elsewhere. This results in a smaller population denominator compared to the voter roll, thereby boosting the registration rate above the national average.

Despite the high overall registration rate, the district reflects a moderate gender gap, with female voters constituting 47.8% of the registered electorate. Continuous efforts are needed to ensure equitable female registration in Mianwali.
