Lahore: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) in Lahore joined global efforts to observe World Environment Day by focusing on the theme of “Ending Plastic Pollution.” The event, organized by the Department of Environmental Sciences, the Society for Conservation of Environment and Nature (SCEN), the Green Youth Movement (GYM) club, and the Senior Tutor Office, featured an awareness walk and a seminar aimed at educating the public on environmental protection and improvement.
The day commenced with an awareness walk led by Prof Dr. Aneela Zameer Durrani, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science. The walk saw participation from key university figures, including Senior Tutor Prof Dr. Yasin Tipu, Dr. Saif Ur Rehman Kashif, Chairman of the Department of Environmental Sciences, and Ms. Iqra Mahmood Malik, a member of the Prime Minister’s Green Youth Movement at Punjab Tianjin University of Technology Lahore. Faculty members and students joined the initiative, underscoring the community’s commitment to environmental causes.
Following the walk, Dr. Saif Ur Rehman delivered a lecture focusing on the benefits and practical challenges of using solar energy for home consumption. He discussed the significance of solar energy and explored solutions to practical issues related to its use. Dr. Rehman also expanded on various environmental concerns, offering insights into improving ecological sustainability.
Ms. Iqra Mahmood Malik addressed the seminar attendees on the pressing issue of plastic waste management. Her talk emphasized the importance of managing plastic waste effectively to mitigate its impact on the environment.
The event at UVAS highlighted the necessity for collective action in addressing environmental challenges, particularly in reducing plastic pollution. Through educational initiatives, the university aimed to empower individuals with the knowledge necessary to make informed decisions for a sustainable future.
