University of Sindh Symposium Stresses Police Reform to Combat Violence Against Women and Children

Jamshoro, At a symposium hosted by the University of Sindh, key speakers highlighted the urgent need for police reform and stricter law enforcement to effectively combat the rising violence against women and children in Sindh. The event emphasized the importance of specialized training for police officers and a robust legal framework to protect vulnerable groups.

According to University of Sindh, the gathering at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Convention Center addressed key issues contributing to domestic violence and the broader societal violence against women and children. Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro, Vice Chancellor, emphasized that empowering women within the police force and revising police training are essential steps towards reducing gender-based violence. Additionally, speakers such as Dr. Irfana Begum Mallah criticized the inadequate implementation of good laws, which hinders the progress towards women’s safety and equality.

The symposium also covered the wider social challenges that perpetuate violence, including cultural practices like Vadira Shahi, which obstruct legal actions against such crimes.
