Jamshoro, In an effort to combat environmental pollution and promote green spaces, the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, has initiated a plantation campaign led by the Green Youth Movement Club. The campaign saw active participation from both teachers and students, with several saplings being planted across the campus. This initiative underscores the university community’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability.

According to University of Sindh, the event was marked by the presence of notable figures, including Divisional Forest Officer Dr. Zubair Ahmed Chanar, who emphasized the manifold benefits of plantation and the urgent need to mitigate environmental pollution for healthier human life. Dr. Chanar advocated for the cessation of tree cutting and urged the importance of planting and nurturing trees to foster a greener environment.

Range Forest Officer Dr. Ghulam Hussain Shah highlighted the widespread recognition of plantation’s significance, calling it a collective responsibility to contribute to greening efforts and maintain the surrounding ecosystem. Echoing these sentiments, Director of Student Affairs Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus Laghari spoke about the university’s vision, led by the Vice Chancellor, to transform the campus into a lush, green haven through ongoing plantation drives.

The campaign also featured contributions from Director Campus Security Dr. Ghulam Saqib Barro, Security Officer Muhammad Ismail Bajeer, and DSP Police Headquarters Jamshoro Abdul Rahman Khaskhali, all of whom participated in the planting activities. This collaborative effort between the university’s administration, faculty, students, and local environmental officials illustrates a unified approach to environmental stewardship and the promotion of sustainable practices within the academic community.

Karachi, The College of Computer Science and Information Systems (CCSIS) at the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) hosted a distinguished panel discussion titled ‘Exploring Trends in Academia-Industry Relationships and Charting Future Courses of Action’ on Thursday, February 22, 2024. The event featured prominent speakers from the industry and academia, focusing on strengthening the ties between educational institutions and the business sector to address the evolving challenges at their interface.

According to Institute of Business Management, the panel included Mr. Muhammad Zohaib Khan, Chairman of PASHA; Mr. Shaukat Ali Khan, Global Chief Information Officer at Aga Khan University; and Ms. Naureen Anwar, Senior Vice President at Systems Ltd. Brig. Prof. Muhammad Abbas, Dean of CCSIS, moderated the discussion, which was attended by IoBM’s management, deans, faculty members, and students.

The speakers shared their insights on the necessity of bridging the gap between academia and industry through effective policies and collaboration. Mr. Zohaib Khan emphasized the importance for students to gain knowledge in emerging fields such as generative AI and cybersecurity, which are expected to dominate the tech industry in the coming years. Mr. Shaukat Ali Khan discussed the global and local evolution of academia-industry relationships, highlighting the need for academia to address societal problems with practical solutions developed in partnership with the industry.

Ms. Naureen Anwar pointed out the constraints faced by the industry in the post-Covid era, especially regarding resources and talent, and suggested involving senior faculty in collaborations to enhance the quality of education and industry readiness among students. The panelists agreed on the significance of aligning expectations, priorities, and mindsets between universities and the industry to foster a productive partnership.

The event concluded with a consensus on the current state and future of academia-industry relationships, emphasizing research, technological advancements, and the vital role of education in meeting the needs of the IT industry. Shields were presented to the panelists as a token of appreciation, and Engineer Asghar Khan, Head of the Computer Science Department, along with Dr. Khalid Bin Muhammad, Industry Liaison focal person for CCSIS, thanked the panelists, guests, faculty, and student volunteers of the Digicon Society for their participation and contributions.

Jamshoro, The Department of Textile Engineering at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) is inviting applications for a paid research assistant position, presenting a unique opportunity for Master’s students to engage in cutting-edge research. The project, titled “Synthesis of printable and conductive nano carbon ink and its potential application in textile structured solar cells,” aims to explore innovative applications of nano carbon ink in the development of solar cells integrated into textile materials.

According to Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, the position is open to students enrolled in their first year of a Master’s program in disciplines such as Textile Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials, Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering at a well-reputed university. The selected candidate will be involved in the project for a duration of 12 months, receiving a monthly remuneration of Rs. 16,000.

Dr. Anam Ali Memon, Assistant Professor at the Department of Textile Engineering, MUET, is leading the project under the reference No. 20-16123/NRPU/R and D/HEC/2021.
