Rawalpindi: Bangladesh’s cricket team may receive a significant boost with the return of fast bowler Taskin Ahmed for their upcoming Test series against Pakistan. Taskin, who has been sidelined due to a shoulder injury, is in the final stages of his recovery and looks set to rejoin the team for this crucial contest.
According to International Cricket Council, Taskin Ahmed has not participated in Test cricket for over a year but is now preparing to resume the longer format as Bangladesh gears up for the ICC World Test Championship series in Pakistan. Taskin’s return to Test cricket depends on his ability to handle the physical demands of bowling longer spells, as outlined by team physio Bayjedul Islam.
Taskin recently participated in the T20 World Cup and played a series of T20 matches in Sri Lanka, which did not require prolonged bowling stints. His current training regimen is focused on building stamina and resilience to withstand the rigors of Test cricket. “Taskin is definitely available for Tests if he continues his rehabilitation and workouts,” Bayjedul stated, noting that the bowler’s shoulder condition has not worsened since his last assessment.
With only 13 Test caps since his debut against New Zealand in 2017, Taskin’s potential comeback is seen as vital for Bangladesh, currently positioned seventh in the World Test Championship standings. The team is eager to improve their record in the upcoming series, which starts on August 21 in Rawalpindi, followed by the second Test in Karachi beginning on August 30.
Taskin’s progress will be closely monitored during the training camp, with hopes high that he can make a significant contribution to Bangladesh’s efforts to climb the Championship ladder.
