UMT Holds Rector Merit Award Ceremony 

Lahore, December 08, 2022 (PPI-OT):University of Management and Technology (UMT) held the Rector Merit Award Ceremony Spring 2022 where 393 students of BS and MS degree programs were awarded the Rector Merit Award. The chief guest of the ceremony was the President of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Mr Kashif Anwar. Rector UMT Dr Asif Raza, Director General UMT Abid Sherwani, Controller Examinations Haseeb Haider, Senior Manager Examinations Muhammad Usman, Deans, Directors, students and their parents attended the ceremony.

Kashif Anwar, President LCCI, congratulated the awardees and their parents for this remarkable achievement and advised the high achievers to serve the nation to the best of their abilities. He also guided the students to become a valuable asset for the country, to never stop struggling and always keep progressing on the journey to success.

Rector UMT Dr Asif Raza thanked the chief guest and the attendees for being part of the ceremony. He also expressed that success is the tradition of UMT and guided the awardees to keep working hard in order to be successful in the practical life ahead. Rector UMT appreciated the parents and said that they play a great role in inspiring their children to flourish.

He counselled the students to make their mark worldwide with credibility and honesty. In his concluding remarks, he proudly said that UMT has achieved its stature in a very short time period which was only possible due to the dynamic leadership of Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad (Shaheed) and DG UMT Mr Abid Sherwani. Certificates and awards were distributed among the award-winning students by the Chief Guest, Rector and DG UMT. At the end of the ceremony, Rector and DG UMT presented a souvenir to the chief guest Mr Kashif Anwar.

Announcement of Rector’s Merit Award Ceremony (Spring 2022) 

Lahore, December 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Office of the Controller of Examinations (OCE) at the University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lahore has scheduled the Rector’s Merit Award Ceremony (Spring 2022) on Tuesday, December 06, 2022. The ceremony will formally begin at 11:00 am sharp in the UMT Greens.

Mr Kashif Anwar, President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be the chief guest of the ceremony. The worthy Rector, all Deans/Directors, Controller of Examination and the high achiever students of the university along with a single parent will grace the occasion with their presence. UMT ranked 20th in the world by glob ethics net 

Lahore, December 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Globethics.net University Ranking (GUR) provides the first global ranking instrument that places values, ethics and sustainability as central principles of higher education institutions worldwide.

The motto is “Ethics in Higher Education”

Methodology: The overall ranking of universities aggregates data based on the identification of which institute is most committed to providing impactful positive experiences for students, staff, the environment, industry and society. Institutions that participate in the ranking get a short survey of students and staff. These surveys are analysed by Globethics.net to generate a new, independent ranking of universities.

It is indeed a matter of great pride that the University of Management and Technology applied to this ranking for the first time and became the only Pakistani university to be ranked 20th out of 25 world universities for the 2022 edition. Heartiest congratulations to the entire UMT leadership, faculty, staff and students for their support and contribution to this brilliant achievement.

1st International Conference on Advances in Civil and Construction Engineering 

Lahore, December 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):UMT School of Engineering organized the 1st International Conference on Advances in Civil and Construction Engineering (ACCE). Chief Guest Prof. Ahsan Iqbal, Minister of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, President UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad, Rector UMT Dr. Asif Raza, DG UMT Abid Sherwani, Prof. Dr. Mujahid Kamran, Dean School of Engineering Dr. Usman Rasheed, esteemed faculty and a large number of staff and students participated in the conference.

National and international scholars, researchers and civil engineers presented more than 50 research papers related to civil engineering. Ahsan Iqbal while addressing the conference, congratulated UMT for organizing a conference on such an important topic. He said that maximum focus should be given to research in the universities because only through research our exports will improve which will play the role of a backbone in our country’s development.

He highlighted the importance of stability for the success and development of any country and stated that we as a nation could not progress due to political instability. Prof. Ahsan praised the dynamic leadership of Ibrahim Murad and said that he is truly taking forward the legacy of Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad (Shaheed).

Prof Ahsan Iqbal advised that if we want to succeed, we have to work with collaboration because all developing countries have advanced because of teamwork and alliance. Development in the field of engineering has become the need of the hour because the best architects of the nation are playing a vital role in the growth of our country; he added.

In his concluding remarks, he said that all the development will be made possible only when strong links are established between academia and industry and when capable young researchers play an important role in the development of all sectors through innovation.

Rector UMT Dr. Asif Raza congratulated the Civil Engineering Department for organizing the successful conference and said that the engineering department is the engine of the country’s development. We have very competent engineers in our country but unfortunately, we have not made any substantial progress, he expressed. Dr. Asif said that Pakistan Engineering Council is improving engineering education in collaboration with educational institutions and very soon our engineering sector will make significant progress.

All the speakers and researchers said that if we want to progress and grow, we have to move towards sustainable development, develop the engineering sector and improve our domestic exports. The experts also highlighted the need to find solutions to the country’s problems through quality engineering education. At the end of the ceremony, President UMT Ibrahim Murad presented a souvenir to Minister Planning Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal along with Rector UMT.

UMT holds the 1st International Media and Communication Conference

Lahore, November 25, 2022 (PPI-OT):University of Management and Technology (UMT) School of Media and Communication Studies (SMCS) organized the 1st three-day International Media and Communication Conference (IMCC 2022) on the completion of two hundred years of Urdu Journalism.

Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman, Governor of the Punjab joined the chief guest of the conference. Director General UMT Abid Sherwani, Rector UMT Dr. Asif Raza, Dean School of Media and Communication Studies Dr. Prof. Anjum Zia, Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission Shahid Munir, Senior Journalist Mujibur Rahman Shami, Salim Bukhari, Salman Ghani, Dr. Altaf, Former Senator Javed Jabbar, faculty, staff and a large number students participated in the conference.

100+ research papers on Urdu Journalism were presented at the conference to find the solutions to challenges faced by Urdu Journalism. Dean SMCS Dr. Prof. Anjum Zia in his opening remarks thanked Governor Punjab and other guests for joining the conference. She said that only UMT has got the honour of organizing a conference on the completion of two hundred years of Urdu journalism in Pakistan. She said that the purpose of this conference is to revive Urdu journalism by highlighting the importance of the Urdu language.

Governor Punjab Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman congratulated the UMT administration for organizing a successful conference. He said that Urdu is a language that integrates all other languages. He said that in 1857 Urdu language played a very important role and so has a significant place in the whole world. He further said that the Urdu language and journalism have a very important role in the history of the subcontinent.

Governor Punjab said that journalists have always made sacrifices in the history of the subcontinent and I am deeply saddened by the recent death of journalist Arshad Sharif. In his concluding remarks, he said that the moral training of people is very important so that the system of justice can be practiced in society.

Rector UMT Dr. Asif Raza expressed his views and said that our problems and direction will be fixed by modifying our thinking. He said that we have no existence without Urdu journalism, so our young generation has to carry this mission forward.

He said that UMT is one of the best universities in Pakistan and will soon be among the best universities in the world because now we are competing with the best universities in the world. DG UMT Abid Sherwani expressed his views and said that this is the first international conference of its kind to be held on the Urdu language and Urdu journalism. Along with providing quality education to its students, UMT also provides successful and useful platforms like this conference to groom them, he added.

Senior Journalist Salman Ghani, while expressing his views, congratulated UMT for organizing this fruitful conference and said that a great person like Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad Shaheed has made a successful institution like UMT which is truly dedicated to the promotion of education. He said that UMT has a very important role in shaping the standards and character of the youth with education. The important role of the Urdu newspaper in the freedom of Pakistan can never be forgotten, he expressed.

Senior Journalist Mujibur Rahman Shami while addressing congratulated the management and media department of UMT for organizing the first International Conference on Urdu Journalism in Pakistan. He said that Urdu newspapers have fought battles for freedom. He said that generation after generation, Urdu literature has trained people. We have to further strengthen the importance and role of Urdu journalism, he advised.

Former Senator Javed Jabbar, highlighting the importance of the Urdu language and Urdu journalism, said that there is no example of the hardships and difficulties endured by journalists. At the conference, international journalists highlighted the role and importance of journalism through Zoom and said that journalism plays an important role in community building in a country.

Achievement of UMT Men and Women Boxing Teams 

Lahore, November 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Sports Department at the University of Management and Technology successfully organized the “24th HEC Intervarsity Boxing (Men) Competition” on November 13-16, 2022. 21 universities across the country with more than 250 students participated in the sports extravaganza and the UMT boxing men’s team created history by winning 3 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals and secured the overall runner-up trophy.

UMT Sports Department also participated for the first time in the “HEC All Pakistan Boxing (Women) Championship” organized by Lahore Women College University, Lahore (LCWU) from November 16-19, 2022, won 1 gold and 1 bronze medal and secured 5th position overall. More than 80 female boxers across the country participated and represented their universities.
