Lahore, March 09, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Grand Alumni Reunion 2023 hosted by the Alumni and Advancement Office on March 5th, 2023, was a huge success. The event started with a recitation of the Holy Quran and a reading from the Holy Bible, followed by the National Anthem and a few moments of silence to remember the Formanites who have passed away.

Mr. Attiazaz Munawar ud Din, President of Formanites Alumni Association, gave the welcome address and emphasized the importance of alums as an asset to the University. The event also honoured the Gold and Silver Alumni by giving them a massive round of applause.

The President of Friends of Forman, Dr. Roger Dermody, expressed his gratitude towards the alums for attending the reunion and showing their support for the University. The event was an excellent opportunity for the alums to connect and relive their memories by coming back to their alma mater.

Chief Guest of the event, Dr. Peter H. Armacost, congratulated and gave the award to the first recipient of the Distinguished Formanites Award, Mr. Malik Fateh Khan, for his outstanding contributions to his field and for embodying the ideals of FCCU. He also congratulated Brigadier (R) Javed Iqbal Warraich, the second recipient of this prestigious award, for his distinguished career in the armed forces and his unwavering commitment to serving his country and fellow citizens.

The Rector of the FCCU, Dr. Jonathan Addleton, and Mr. Attiazaz ud Din, presented a shield to Chief Guest. The event also included a lucky draw by Barry Furniture; the management expressed sincere gratitude to Servis Industries, Mr. Parvez Shahid, Chairman of Equity Global, Infinity Ventures, Silk Bank, and Barry’s Furniture for their generous support and sponsorship for this event.

Their contributions have played a vital role in making this event a grand success and have enabled FCCU to provide a memorable experience for all the guests. Their generosity and commitment towards the University is deeply appreciated, and FCCU is grateful for their continued support.

Afterwards, the dinner was served to all the participants. The event concluded with a concert by Abrar-ul-Haq, which surely added an extra excitement to the event.

Overall, the event was well-planned and executed to provide an excellent opportunity for alumni to reconnect with their alma mater and each other. It is always heart-warming to see Formanites and Friends coming together to celebrate their shared experiences and memories of their college years at FCCU.

Lahore, February 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):Two students of Computer Science department, Muhammad Tayyab and Aleena Azeem, pitched their project “Waste Ledger” for the NICL, Cohort 11. After rigorous in-person and online interviews, they have been selected to join NICL Cohort 11 through which they will be provided with office space, technical training and other facilities to develop a fully marketable solution for their project.

Their idea stems from the critical problem of waste management especially in urban areas, which will be dealt with a network of smart dustbins connected through a web interface to identify which bins are filled and need emptying while employing route planning to guide garbage trucks.

Lahore, February 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):Major orientation for freshmen and sophomore students was conducted by Dr Sidra Minhas and Mr Sharoon Naseem on 15th February, 2023 in S-009. The event was attended by Dr. Atiq-ur-Rehman, Head of Academic Advising, and FCCU. In this gathering the students were informed about the importance of liberal arts education being offered at FCCU.

A detailed discussion about core courses, elective courses and designing the roadmap so as to graduate on time was conducted. In the end, a graduating student, Mr. Muhammad Tayyab was invited to share his success story with his juniors. He stressed upon time-management, channelizing energy towards technological advances and self-learning.

Lahore, February 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Department of Computer Science in collaboration with ORIC organized the Computer Science Senior Project Exhibition (COMSPEX) for senior projects on Tuesday, 14th February 2023. The best project award with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 was awarded to “Electric Ledger” conducted by Mr. Muhammad Tayyab, Mr. Muzafar Arshad and Mr. Chand Saleem under the supervision of Ms. Samia Asloob.

The best poster award with a cash prize of Rs 5,000 was won by Ms. Hafsa Ayaz, Ms. Aleena Khalid and Mr. Basit Islam for their project poster about “Speech Therapist for Speech Challenged Children of Pakistan” supervised by Mr. Akheem Yousaf.

Students with outstanding achievements included Mr Hassan Shakoor Rana, Ms. Rifa Salman and Mr. Ahmed Yasser for winning P@SHA and APICTA ICT Awards for their project Sunno and Mr. Muhammad Tayyab and Ms. Aleena Azeem were selected for National Incubation Center Lahore (NICL), Cohort 11 for their project “Waste Ledger”.

Lahore, February 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):A MoU was signed between Deaf Reach Foundation and Forman Christian College, Department of Computer Science for continued assistance for the project “Sunno”. “Sunno” is an android application developed to convert Text/Words to their respective Pakistan Sign Language (PSL) lexicon. The PSL data compiled by the Deaf Reach Foundation was used in this project while students of CS department provided the technical skills.
