Rawalpindi: A one-day symposium titled “Building Peaceful and Inclusive Societies: Exploring the Role of Social Sciences in Nation Building” was successfully organized on June 3, 2025, by the Department of Psychology. The event, coordinated by Dr. Syeda Rubab Aftab, aimed to explore the contribution of social sciences in fostering peaceful and inclusive communities.
The symposium opened with a welcome note from Prof. Dr. Shazia Khalid, Head of the Department of Psychology, who underscored the significance of social sciences in understanding societal dynamics and resolving conflicts.
The event’s discussions centered around four thematic areas: religious tolerance and social justice, economic equity and sustainability, cultural diversity and social inclusion, and peace and social cohesion.
Renowned experts shared their insights throughout the day. Brig. Prof. Dr. Tanvir Akhtar, SI(M), (Retd), offered perspectives on conflict mitigation and social unity. Dr. Hammad Malik discussed inclusive economic policies, while Brig. Dr. Tughral Yamin, SI(M), (Retd), spoke on interfaith dialogue and social fairness. Dr. Abdul Qadir provided insights into embracing diversity in nation-building.
An e-poster competition complemented the presentations, highlighting innovative research and initiatives aligned with the core themes of the symposium.
The event concluded with a shield distribution ceremony and remarks from Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Anila Kamal, Vice Chancellor of Rawalpindi Women University. She emphasized the crucial role of social sciences in nation-building and advocated for continued collaboration to implement the symposium’s insights into actionable policies.
