ISLAMABAD: A recent survey conducted by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan indicates that 15% of Pakistanis show interest in transitioning from petrol-powered to electric motorcycles, with the primary motivation being savings on fuel costs. The survey reveals a noteworthy interest in electric alternatives, though a substantial majority of respondents remain uninterested in making the switch.
The survey posed the question, “Would you like to switch from a petrol-powered motorcycle to an electric motorcycle?” to a nationally representative sample of adult men and women. Out of the participants, 15% expressed a willingness to switch, while 83% preferred to stick with petrol-powered motorcycles. A small fraction, 2%, either did not know or chose not to respond.
Conducted by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, the study was part of a broader initiative to understand consumer preferences across the country. The survey involved 1,038 participants from diverse urban and rural areas across Pakistan, covering all four provinces. The data collection was carried out using telephonic surveys from April 11 to April 18, 2025.
The survey comes with an error margin of approximately ± 2-3 percent at a 95% confidence level, offering a reliable insight into the current sentiment towards electric motorcycles in Pakistan. The findings highlight the potential for electric vehicles in the country, driven by economic considerations such as fuel savings.
