SSCI Advocates for Upgrades and Staffing in Islamabad’s Safe City Project

Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Interior (SSCI) has recommended a series of enhancements for the Safe City project, urging the digitization of its infrastructure and the filling of 38 technical vacancies to transform it into a more comprehensive Smart City initiative.

According to Zameen.Com, the SSCI, chaired by Senator Faisal Saleem Rehman, evaluated the project’s current operations and noted its success in crime reduction. However, they emphasized the need for technological upgrades to keep pace with new security challenges. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, who was present at the briefing, explained that the project was originally developed by NADRA but is now under the management of the Islamabad Police. The committee’s push for digitization includes substantial updates to the existing systems and infrastructure to enhance surveillance and response capabilities across the city.

The SSCI’s recommendations come at a critical time when urban safety and technological advancements are increasingly intertwined. By filling the vacant positions, the committee believes it can expedite the project’s evolution into a Smart City framework, thereby increasing its efficiency and effectiveness in managing urban security dynamics.
