Karachi: Top clerics from Jamiat Ulema Pakistan and the National Unity Council have voiced serious concerns over escalating unrest in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, criticizing unidentified forces for disrupting local peace efforts.
According to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan, the group’s president, Dr. Sahibzada Abul Khair Mohammad Zubair, along with other prominent religious figures including Pir Syed Safdar Shah Geelani and Pir Agha Taj Sabtain, condemned the recent violence at a peaceful demonstration in Bannu. They expressed distress over the situation, suggesting that certain entities are attempting to further their own interests at the expense of the region’s stability.
The leaders emphasized that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, weary of ongoing terrorism and strife, are earnestly seeking peace. They called on both federal and provincial governments to thoroughly investigate the incidents that led to the unrest and to hold accountable those responsible for sabotaging the peace march. They urged authorities to take decisive action against the perpetrators to restore and ensure peace for the residents of Bannu and the wider province.
