Punjab University Rejects Allegations, Defends Actions Amid Accusations

LAHORE: Punjab University has publicly dismissed allegations from the Joint Action Committee, asserting that the university administration has consistently responded to accusations with evidence, official records, and improved performance metrics across its operations. According to University of the Punjab, the spokesperson for the university emphasized during an emergency press conference that the committee's efforts to derail ongoing investigations are tied to attempts to evade accountability and corrupt practices in Town-III.

The spokesperson detailed that the formation of the Joint Action Committee coincided with the fact-finding and investigation processes related to the Town-III scandal, suggesting a strategic motive behind the committee's recent activities and pressures. He further stated that all complaints regarding appointments, administrative issues, and alleged misuse of university facilities are being addressed in compliance with legal and institutional regulations, ensuring decisions are based on evidence rather than external pressures.

The university stressed its commitment to transparency and accountability, urging the Joint Action Committee to support independent investigations rather than obstruct them. The administration reaffirmed its stance against retaliatory measures, underscoring that all actions will be grounded in evidence and adjudicated through competent forums. The spokesperson highlighted the operational role of statutory bodies like the Finance and Planning Committee and the Syndicate in overseeing administrative and financial matters, with decisions being made following proper institutional protocols.

Financially, the university reported significant progress, citing an increase in income from Rs. 7 billion to Rs. 12.5 billion, alongside a reduction in the budget deficit. These financial improvements, according to the university, contradict the narrative of financial instability, as the administration has implemented measures to boost revenue and curtail unnecessary spending. Additional efforts have led to substantial savings in energy costs and an increase in admissions by over 40 percent, reflecting the institution’s rising credibility among students and parents.

The spokesperson concluded that Punjab University remains steadfast in its mission to uphold education and research, financial stability, and institutional reforms, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory frameworks while advancing its academic, financial, and administrative objectives.
