Punjab Sports Department Greenlights New Projects, Including Complex in Olympian Arshad Nadeem’s Village

Lahore: In a significant move to bolster sports infrastructure in Punjab, Secretary of Sports and Youth Affairs, Muzaffar Khan Sial, chaired a Departmental Development Scrutiny Committee meeting at Punjab Stadium on Tuesday, where 13 sports development schemes were approved. This initiative is part of the broader ‘Khelta Punjab’ campaign aimed at enhancing sports facilities across the province.

According to Sports Board Punjab, the meeting saw the approval of several major projects including the construction of a sports complex in Olympic javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem’s village, Mian Channu, with an allocated budget of Rs 52 million. Additionally, the Punjab International Swimming Complex is set to receive an upgrade to further its capabilities for hosting international events.

The session was attended by key figures such as P and D Assistant Chief M. Imran, Director Admin Dr. M. Kaleem, Additional Secretary Sports Mian Usman Ali, and Project Director PMU Qaiser Raza, among others from the Finance and P and D Department.

Secretary Sial highlighted the significant investment in a modern squash complex, which is to be completed in its second phase at a cost of Rs 499 million. The complex will feature six courts and seating for 700 spectators, underscoring Punjab’s commitment to developing top-tier sports facilities.

Emphasizing the government’s dedication to sports development, Secretary Sial stated, “All possible measures are being taken for the development of sports culture across the province. Old sports schemes are being restored and new ones are being constructed under Punjab Chief Minister’s ‘Khelta Punjab’ initiative.” This project aims not only to enhance physical infrastructure but also to cultivate a vibrant sports culture throughout Punjab.
