Public Opinion on Pakistani TV Series Content Remains Steady, Reveals Gallup Survey

Islamabad, 17 Oct 2023:Public views on the appropriateness of content in Pakistani television dramas have shown minimal change from 2020 to 2023, according to a recent study by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan History Project.

In a survey conducted in 2020, Gallup and Gilani posed a question to a representative sample of adult men and women from across Pakistan regarding their views on whether the content of Pakistani television series was suitable for family viewing. The results indicated that 41% believed the content was appropriate, while 39% deemed it inappropriate. Additionally, 20% of the participants either declined to respond or were unsure.

Revisiting the question in 2023 for a comparative perspective, the study found that 44% of respondents considered the TV content suitable for families, whereas 41% disagreed. The percentage of participants who abstained from giving a clear response or were uncertain dropped to 15%.

A trend analysis deduced a slight increase of 3% in the segment that found the content appropriate over the three years. Meanwhile, the segment considering the content inappropriate grew by 2%. The respondents who did not provide a definitive answer or were uncertain saw a decrease of 5% from 2020 to 2023.
