Karachi: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh announced plans to hold the “Salam Sindh Convention” in Ghotki on May 4. The event aims to oppose the 26th Constitutional Amendment and the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), while acknowledging the political awareness of the legal fraternity and the public.
The announcement came during a meeting at Adil House in Karachi, chaired by PTI Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh. The meeting was attended by several prominent lawyers, including Advocate Abdul Wahab Baloch, Advocate Zahoor Mehsud, and Barrister Fayaz Samor, among others.
The convention is expected to draw significant participation from lawyers and PTI leadership across Sindh. It will address issues such as the 26th Constitutional Amendment, PECA, and the importance of upholding the rule of law in Pakistan.
Haleem Adil Sheikh, speaking to the media, praised the Sindhi legal community and the public for their resistance to a controversial canal project over the River Indus. He stated that PTI would launch a movement against the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government in Sindh, accusing it of mismanaging water resources and neglecting basic facilities.
Sheikh accused the PPP of attempting to exploit Sindh’s water resources through disputed canal projects, halted due to public resistance. He also expressed concerns over the weakening of the constitutional and legal framework in the country.
Criticizing the current justice system, Sheikh highlighted a dual standard of justice, vowing PTI’s commitment to restoring constitutional supremacy. He emphasized that the 26th Amendment and PECA have undermined the judiciary and press freedom, respectively, and called for active resistance from the legal community.
