Project GODA Marks Seventh Year of Free Medical Missions in Pakistan

Karachi, Project GODA (Gift of Disability Alleviation), in its seventh annual initiative, has embarked on a mission to provide essential medical services across Pakistan, from February 17, 2024, to February 23, 2024. A team of medical professionals from the United States is set to perform a series of free surgeries, including 140 joint replacements, 16 spinal surgeries, and 8 ACL reconstructions in Karachi, Lahore, and Muzaffargarh, aiming to address the significant backlog of patients awaiting these life-changing procedures.

According to The Indus Hospital, the initiative is a collaboration with the Indus Hospital and Health Network (IHHN) and is led by Dr. Umar Burney. The team includes renowned surgeons from various prestigious institutions in the USA, such as Dr. Saad Khan from Advocate Hospital, Dr. Bilal Mahmood from Baylor, and Dr. Khalid Yousuf from Dallas Hip and Knee Center, among others. The medical mission is supported by a dedicated team, including Andrew Pritchett from TJO Implants and Lauren Podina, a Physical Therapist from Orthopedics Specialists of Dallas. This diverse group brings not only their medical expertise but also a commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.

The surgeries are planned to be distributed across the three cities, with Karachi receiving the bulk of the joint replacements and ACL reconstructions. Lahore and Muzaffargarh are also key focuses of the mission, with Muzaffargarh slated for both joint replacements and all 16 spinal surgeries, highlighting the critical healthcare needs in these regions.

This initiative is particularly significant for many patients who have been on the waiting list for years, emphasizing the critical nature of Project GODA’s mission. The team not only performs surgeries but also provides essential implants, addressing a dire need for high-quality medical equipment in the region. Reflecting on the impact of their efforts, the GODA team has been instrumental in transforming lives, with last year’s mission resulting in over 129 surgeries.

As Project GODA continues its compassionate journey for the seventh year, the initiative stands as a beacon of hope and healing, significantly reducing waiting times for critical surgeries at IHHN and building a brighter future for those in need.
