Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari extended his congratulations to Kazakhstan on its 34th Independence Day, acknowledging the historical significance of this date for the Central Asian nation. Celebrated as the anniversary of the adoption of the Law on Independence and State Sovereignty in 1991, the day marks Kazakhstan’s establishment as a sovereign democratic state.
President Zardari highlighted Kazakhstan’s progress since independence, noting the country’s resilience and the symbolic importance of the 1986 Zheltoksan protests in Almaty. These protests, led by Kazakh youth against Soviet policies, are remembered as a pivotal moment in Kazakhstan’s journey toward freedom.
In his message, President Zardari emphasized the strong ties between Pakistan and Kazakhstan, describing the relationship as one founded on shared values and mutual respect. He expressed appreciation for Kazakhstan’s support in international forums, including the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
The President also pointed to the growing cooperation between the two countries in areas such as trade, energy, and regional connectivity, with particular emphasis on opportunities arising from the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Concluding his message, President Zardari extended his best wishes to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the people of Kazakhstan for ongoing prosperity and stability. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening the bilateral partnership in pursuit of regional peace and development.
