Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has called for the embrace of Sufi poet Baba Bulleh Shah’s teachings to foster love, peace, and understanding across diverse communities. His message was delivered during the 267th Urs (death anniversary celebration) of Baba Bulleh Shah in Qasur today, highlighting the poet’s profound impact on Pakistan’s cultural and spiritual landscape.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party announcement issued on 31 August 2024, President Zardari’s address, read at the event, emphasized Baba Bulleh Shah’s significant role in promoting social harmony and spiritual insight through his poetry. The President proposed the establishment of the Bulleh Shah International Peace University in Qasur as a tribute to the poet’s legacy. This initiative aims to preserve and promote the universal messages of love and peace championed by Bulleh Shah, transcending religious, sectarian, and social divides.
In his message, President Zardari outlined the proposed university’s potential to serve as a beacon of peace and learning, reflecting the Sufi poet’s life-long dedication to the ideals of humanity and tolerance. He noted that he had already forwarded a recommendation for the university’s establishment to the Prime Minister, urging prompt action to fulfill this aspiration of the people of Qasur.
The President also called on all Pakistanis to live by the values promoted by Baba Bulleh Shah, particularly advocating for dialogue, understanding, and respect among all communities. He stressed the importance of unity in diversity, especially in current times marked by global discord, underscoring the need for harmony and empathy to prevail.
