President Zardari Advocates for Enhanced Road Infrastructure in Gilgit-Baltistan to Spur Economic Growth

Islamabad, In a significant move aimed at boosting the regional economy, President Asif Ali Zardari has called for the establishment of an all-weather road infrastructure in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). The initiative is designed to enhance trade, economic activities, and tourism in the area, which is known for its strategic importance and natural beauty.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, during discussions with a delegation led by Mr. Amjad Hussain Advocate, President of the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians GB, President Zardari emphasized the necessity of a robust transport system, particularly between Gilgit and Skardu. This infrastructure would facilitate consistent and reliable transportation throughout the year, improving the movement of goods and boosting connectivity.

The delegation briefed President Zardari on various regional issues, including the need for better health and education services, environmental challenges, and uninterrupted power supply. In response, the President outlined his vision for the region’s development, which includes not only transportation improvements but also significant upgrades to public services. He expressed his commitment to seeing GB develop into a prosperous region and stressed the construction of all-weather roads and tunnels to improve logistics, transportation, and access to public services like healthcare and education.

Moreover, President Zardari discussed plans to enhance the airport in Gilgit, which is expected to further promote tourism in GB. He also announced immediate steps to establish a cardiology hospital and a nursing college in the region, aiming to provide high-quality health services to the local population.

Highlighting GB’s economic potential, particularly in hydroelectric power and tourism, President Zardari stated that fully capitalizing on these resources could serve as a growth engine for the entire country. The delegation also raised environmental concerns, suggesting afforestation projects, including the planting of walnut trees, to help preserve the region’s melting glaciers.

President Zardari reassured the delegation of his full support for the development and prosperity of Gilgit-Baltistan, reflecting a comprehensive approach to tackling both economic and environmental challenges in the region.
