PRCS Chairman Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari Engages in Humanitarian Talks at Pakistani Embassy in Doha

Islamabad: In a significant visit to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Doha, Qatar, Chairman of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari, held discussions with Pakistan’s Minister/Deputy Head of Mission, Syed Mustafa Rabbani, focusing on strengthening humanitarian collaborations and enhancing efforts to support flood-affected communities in Pakistan.

According to Pakistan Red Crescent Society, the meeting centered on a variety of issues including the ongoing and future humanitarian initiatives of the PRCS, its collaboration with the Qatar Red Crescent Society, and methods to bolster the overall humanitarian response to vulnerable populations. Chairman Laghari briefed the Minister/Deputy Head of Mission on the Red Crescent’s extensive involvement in the 2022 monsoon flood relief and their ‘Biparjoy’ response, which includes a wide range of interventions from disaster management to health services and livelihood support.

During his discussion, Chairman Laghari highlighted the crucial role of PRCS’s 1.8 million volunteers and the organization’s collaboration with the government of Pakistan, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and the Armed Forces in augmenting the nation’s humanitarian outreach. He also underscored the importance of forming partnerships with international humanitarian bodies in Qatar to ensure sustained support for ongoing recovery efforts and humanitarian development in Pakistan.

The Minister/Deputy Head of Mission, Syed Mustafa Rabbani, lauded the efforts of the Pakistan Red Crescent and expressed support for linking PRCS with the Pakistani diaspora in Qatar for better mobilization and funding to enhance the humanitarian services provided by PRCS. He committed to facilitating connections between PRCS and various organizations such as Qatar Charity to amplify the reach and impact of their programs.
