PPP Senators Criticize Punjab Government’s Response to Floods and Political Tensions

Islamabad: At a press conference held at the Pakistan Peoples Party Central Secretariat, several PPP Senators voiced criticism against the Punjab government’s handling of recent floods and addressed ongoing political tensions. The discussion, led by Senators Shahadat Awan, Palwasha Khan, Waqar Mehdi, and Masroor Ahsan, highlighted the party’s stance on various national issues.

Senator Palwasha Khan emphasized that the PPP, as a symbol of the federation, has a mandate across all four provinces. She criticized provincialist statements from the Punjab government and noted that Punjab is not the property of any single political entity. Khan also addressed the opposition’s criticism of the PPP, citing the party’s past support for the PML-N and current criticisms of its leadership.

Senator Khan recounted how the PPP joined the coalition to protect democracy but warned that ongoing hostility could lead to further action. She highlighted the PPP’s role in opposing India’s narrative and reiterated the party’s commitment to unity and respect among provinces.

Senator Waqar Mehdi accused the Punjab government of failing to adequately respond to the flood crisis, pointing out a lack of practical measures to protect affected communities. He affirmed the PPP’s commitment to national unity and criticized the PML-N for its internal disputes, urging the party not to drag the PPP into familial quarrels.

Senator Mehdi praised the PPP’s achievements, such as improving international relations and aiding Pakistan’s removal from the FATF grey list. He stressed the party’s dedication to the country’s security and the well-being of its citizens, referencing its successful implementation of the Benazir Income Support Programme during past crises.

Senator Masroor Ahsan highlighted the PPP’s commitment to national stability and unity, pointing out that the party’s mission is to eliminate prejudice between Sindh and Punjab. He underscored the PPP’s contributions to the nation, including its sacrifices for democracy and its presence across all provinces.

Senator Shahadat Awan criticized the Punjab government for its alleged failures and urged it to focus on providing essential assistance to flood-affected individuals, rather than engaging in political controversies. He called for the use of the Benazir Income Support Programme to aid those in need, emphasizing that advertisements cannot address the pressing issues facing the public.

The press conference underscored the PPP’s stance on national unity and its criticism of the Punjab government’s handling of both natural disasters and political dynamics.
