Islamabad: Vice Chairman of the Pasban Democratic Party, Khalil Ahmed Thand, has voiced strong criticism of the government’s plans to make Islamabad a world-class city, arguing that such priorities reflect a disconnect with the real issues facing Pakistanis, such as inflation and high utility bills.
According to Pasban Democratic Party, Thand expressed concern that while residents struggle to afford basic utilities, significant national funds are being allocated to enhance the aesthetics of the capital, a move he described as not only unjust but also unconstitutional. He highlighted the hardships of ordinary citizens who, burdened by economic challenges, have resorted to selling personal belongings to manage expenses. Thand argued that government actions suggest a disregard for the economic crisis, accusing it of exacerbating public suffering for pretense.
Thand also criticized the government for what he sees as the misplacement of priorities by the Shahbaz administration compared to its predecessor, questioning the lack of intervention from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) regarding what he called “wasteful and unproductive spending.” He warned that focusing resources solely on the capital could deepen regional disparities and discontent.
The Pasban Democratic Party’s meeting reflected broader concerns that the current government’s policies might not only neglect but worsen the plight of the Pakistani populace, especially in less developed areas. Thand called for a redirection of funds towards more crucial public relief efforts rather than the capital’s renovation, which he argues will only serve narrow interests and not address the broader needs of the Pakistani people.
