Pasban Democratic Party Calls for Immediate Auction of Seized Smuggled Goods

Karachi, 17 Oct 2023:In a press release issued by the Pasban Democratic Party (PDP), Abu Baker Usman, the party’s political and economic strategy expert, urged for the swift and transparent auctioning of smuggled goods seized by Customs. He advocated that the proceeds from such actions be channeled directly into government coffers.

Detailing a recent operation, Usman cited the seizure of multiple containers from a Mauripur godown by I and I Customs Karachi. The containers held electronics and laptops, amounting to millions of rupees, smuggled under the disguise of diplomatic consignments. Usman raised concerns about potential undervaluing of these seized goods, attributing such misrepresentations to corrupt elements within the system. He called for a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the matter, followed by a lawful auction of the recovered items to ensure that the proceeds are duly submitted to the government.

Highlighting the broader economic implications, Usman described smuggling as a significant drain on the nation’s economy, facilitated by powerful, politically-backed mafias. He also pointed out the involvement of corrupt government officials, whose wrongdoings are frequently covered up due to mafia influences.

Usman emphasized the need for all government bodies, especially Customs, to ramp up efforts against smuggling. By addressing this issue, he believes the country could save billions, aiding in navigating its debt challenges.
