Pakistan Spinners Secure Victory Over Sri Lanka in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup

Sharjah: Pakistan’s spinners played a pivotal role in securing a 31-run victory against Sri Lanka at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Fatima Sana’s brisk 30 runs set a competitive target, which was effectively defended by Pakistan’s bowlers, leading the team to an encouraging start in Pool A.

According to International Cricket Council, Pakistan, batting first, set a score of 116 with contributions from skipper Fatima Sana and Nida Dar. Sri Lanka’s reply was stifled by Pakistan’s strategic bowling, especially the spin duo of Omaima Sohail and Nashra Sandhu, who recorded figures of 2/17 and 2/15 respectively. The Sri Lankan team struggled to keep pace with the required run rate and finished their innings at 85 for nine.

The match saw Pakistan’s bowlers taking early wickets, with Sri Lanka’s top order failing to establish a strong start. Key dismissals included those of Chamari Athapaththu and Vishmi Gunaratne, which significantly slowed down Sri Lanka’s momentum. Fatima Sana clinched the victory for Pakistan with her crucial overs, finishing with impressive figures of two for 10.
