Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari, via a video message to the Global Sustainable Transport Forum-2024 in Beijing, articulated Pakistan’s dedication to advancing a safe, sustainable, and efficient transportation system. His address underscored collaborative efforts with China towards achieving sustainable development goals that promise to bring peace and prosperity.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, President Zardari lauded China’s leadership in promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on the transport sector. He outlined several initiatives Pakistan has implemented, including the introduction of pink buses to ensure safe public transport for women and the enhancement of rural access to all-weather roads, which now reaches 92%.
The President highlighted the challenges posed by climate change and severe weather conditions, which have damaged critical transport infrastructure and isolated rural communities. He expressed gratitude for China’s significant role in fostering regional and global economic prosperity and supported further development of sustainable transport cooperation among the member states of the Transport Authorities.
