Pakistan People’s Party Warns Against Threats to Workers’ Rights Under Privatization Plans

Karachi, In a bold stance, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has voiced its concern over perceived threats to workers’ rights in the face of the government’s privatization program. The Deputy Secretary Information of PPP’s Karachi Division, Asif Khan, has articulated the party’s commitment to safeguarding the legal protections afforded to workers, citing the enduring legacy of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and the historic struggles of the party’s leadership.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Asif Khan, the party’s Convenor East District, emphasized that the PPP would not stand by as the rights of workers, enshrined by the long struggles and sacrifices of its leadership, are potentially compromised by the current privatization efforts. He drew parallels with the Chicago era, known for its labor unrest, suggesting that the imposition of privatization is akin to a return to industrial slavery.

Khan indicated that unilateral moves under the guise of privatization could unravel the legal protections that have been fought for over the years. He stated that the PPP is prepared to combat any efforts that would degrade the conditions of workers to levels reminiscent of those faced by the laborers of Chicago.

The statement underscores the PPP’s intent to serve as a bulwark against any infringement on workers’ constitutional rights and positions the party as a defender of labor rights in the country. The PPP has historically been associated with progressive labor policies, and this recent declaration is consistent with its advocacy for workers’ rights and welfare.
