Pakistan Meteorological Department will install automatic meteorological stations in 4 campuses of the IUB

Bahawalpur, November 12, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Meteorological Department Ministry of Aviation Government of Pakistan will install automatic meteorological stations in 4 campuses of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. With the financial support of the World Bank, these meteorological stations will be installed in Ahmedpur East, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Liaquatpur campuses. In this regard, Director General of Pakistan Meteorological Department Sahibzada Khan has informed in writing to Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob.

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur is the first university in the country where research activities have been aligned with national priorities in the last three years. In this regard, progress is already underway with the support of the provincial government on the establishment of a special agro-economic zone in Cholistan through the system of increasing rainfall. Collaboration with Pakistan Meteorological Department is a link in this chain.

On the one hand, the establishment of weather stations in university campuses will increase research activities, on the other hand, it will help in compiling statistics on important topics including climate change, food security. It is worth mentioning that automated weather stations have been provided by the International Center for Climate Change, Food Security and Sustainability of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. In this regard, the Vice-Chancellor has congratulated Inter-University Consortium Patron Prof. Dr. Shazia Anjum, Focal Person Wajid Naseem Jatoi, teachers and students for this success.
