Karachi Economist Calls for People-Friendly Budget to Alleviate Economic Strain

Karachi, In a recent statement, Irfan Sayed, an economic expert and think leader of the Pasban Democratic Party (PDP), emphasized the urgent need for the upcoming budget to be people-friendly and provide relief rather than imposing further sacrifices on citizens. He criticized the current fiscal policies for exacerbating socio-economic issues and failing to secure a prosperous future for Pakistan.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, Sayed outlined the challenges faced by Pakistan, including severe price hikes, increasing unemployment, and a lack of credible governance. He highlighted the detrimental impact of high taxes and utility tariffs dictated by the IMF, which strain the public and stifle economic activity. Sayed noted the significant rise in petrol prices over the last four years and discussed the adverse effects of high interest rates on small and medium enterprises (SMEs), leading to bankruptcies and job losses.

Sayed also critiqued the taxation system, which benefits a wealthy elite while draining national resources. He suggested that taxing sectors like real estate, retail, and agriculture could discourage investment in these areas, potentially shifting focus to manufacturing and other critical industries. Additionally, he addressed the issue of stagflation in Pakistan, characterized by high inflation, stagnant growth, and increasing unemployment.

He concluded by urging the government to focus on alleviating the burdens faced by ordinary citizens in the forthcoming budget, instead of demanding more sacrifices, to foster a more equitable economic environment.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Marks Anniversary of Pakistan’s Emergence as Nuclear Power

Islamabad, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has extended greetings to Pakistanis worldwide on the anniversary of the country becoming a nuclear power, reflecting on the significant contributions of his political lineage to Pakistan’s nuclear program.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, the PPP Chairman praised the visionary efforts of his grandfather, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the party’s founding chairman and Pakistan’s first elected Prime Minister. He credited him with laying the foundational vision for a nuclear Pakistan, a project carried forward amid significant international pressure.

Bilawal also commemorated the efforts of his mother, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who advanced the nuclear and missile technology essential to the country’s defense capabilities. He highlighted her role in 1998, when as the leader of the opposition, she played a pivotal role in pushing the government to respond to nuclear threats from India, thereby fortifying Pakistan’s national security.

The PPP Chairman also saluted the dedication and expertise of the Pakistani scientists and professionals who have been instrumental in establishing Pakistan as a formidable nuclear power. He praised their resilience and brilliance, acknowledging their crucial role in the nation’s defense strategy.

Reaffirming his party’s commitment to maintaining a policy of minimum nuclear deterrence, Bilawal advocated for global disarmament and opposed nuclear proliferation. He emphasized the PPP’s principles of peaceful coexistence, dialogue, and democracy as guiding forces for Pakistan’s actions on both national and international stages.

“On this historic day, we celebrate our achievements and reaffirm our commitment to a secure, peaceful, and democratic Pakistan,” Bilawal concluded, marking the occasion as a moment of national pride and reflection.

Karachi Faces Severe Water Crisis, PTI Leader Calls for Immediate Reform

Karachi, The city of Karachi is grappling with a severe water crisis that has left a significant portion of its population without reliable access to clean drinking water, exacerbating public health risks and highlighting systemic failures in municipal infrastructure.

According to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Khurrum Sher Zaman, a member of the party’s Central Core Committee, detailed the dire situation facing the city’s residents. A recent study by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSB) found that 90 percent of water samples from various locations in Karachi contained dangerous levels of contaminants like E. coli and coliform bacteria, rendering them unsafe for consumption. The chronic water shortage has forced many residents to either use borehole water, which is unsuitable for drinking due to the coastal city’s groundwater conditions, or to rely on expensive water from private tankers and RO plants.

The crisis stems from a combination of a failing distribution system, extensive leakages, and rampant corruption and theft within the water supply infrastructure. Notably, about 42 percent of the water intended for Karachi’s residents is lost or stolen before it can be distributed, particularly impacting the main pumping station at Dhabeji, which handles a significant volume of the city’s water supply.

Sher Zaman emphasized the need to combat illegal water hydrants that disrupt the water supply and advocated for decentralizing the water distribution system to reduce costs and improve efficiency. He also stressed the importance of regular water quality checks by KWSB to ensure the water reaching residents is free of harmful contaminants.

Rawalpindi Leader Calls for National Unity on Takbeer Day, Stresses Importance of Nuclear Power

Rawalpindi, Allama Agha Syed Hussain Muqdisi, leader of the Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Fiqah Jafaria Pakistan, marked Takbeer Day with a strong message of unity and resilience, emphasizing the critical role of nuclear capability in safeguarding the nation’s security against external threats.

According to Tehreek Nafaze Fiqhe Jafariya, Allama Muqdisi’s address highlighted the significance of Pakistan’s nuclear response to India in 1998, asserting that the nation’s nuclear prowess has effectively deterred external aggressions and brought pride to the Islamic world. He detailed the historical context of Takbeer Day, a commemoration of Pakistan’s declaration as a nuclear power in response to India’s previous tests, which he claimed has restored a balance of power in the region.

Muqdisi called for the government to take definitive actions against banned groups and to fully implement the national action plan to combat terrorism. He stressed the need for a unified stance to support Pakistan’s military in defending against any threats to the country’s security and independence. The leader underscored the importance of nuclear power as both a defensive measure and a symbol of national strength that underpins Pakistan’s geopolitical stance, especially in the face of ongoing tensions with India and its purported attempts to undermine Pakistani security.
