Outrage Over Electrocution Deaths of Two Sisters, Criticism Mounts Against K Electric

Karachi: The recent electrocution deaths of two young sisters, Manahil and Iqra, in Sarjani have sparked significant outrage, with criticism directed at K Electric for its handling of electricity distribution. This tragic incident has led to vehement condemnation from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan officials who label the company’s actions as cruel and negligent.

According to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan, Allama Abdul Khaliq Hazarvi and other senior members expressed profound sadness over the deaths, accusing K Electric of prioritizing revenue collection over safety and maintenance. They criticized the utility company for its alleged focus on generating bills and imposing heavy charges, despite frequent power outages and poor service quality. The re-award of a contract to K Electric, despite previous failures to meet service commitments, was also highlighted as an instance of severe injustice to the residents of Karachi.

The leaders warned of potential unrest similar to disturbances in other regions if the current issues are not addressed. They called for immediate action from city representatives to resolve the grievances of the citizens facing illegal and exaggerated electricity billing. The group’s statement underscores a growing frustration among Karachi residents, exacerbated by the utility’s failure to provide reliable and equitable service.
