Islamabad: The National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) marked its ten-year anniversary by hosting “Wellness Week 2025,” an initiative focusing on the theme “Self-care is Healthcare.” The event, organized by the Department of Avant Health Initiatives and Lifestyle Medicine, highlighted the importance of lifestyle medicine and self-care, emphasizing holistic health practices among students, faculty, and experts.
The week began with “Mindful Monday,” featuring an opening seminar titled “Lifestyle in Focus.” The event included interactive talks and skill-building sessions on nutrition, sleep, and conscious living. Dr. Omar Zafar Jhagra, Director of AHI, inaugurated the event, with Maj. General Farrukh Saeed, the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academics), attending as Chief Guest.
Experts like Dr. Jaweria Abid provided practical guidance on lifestyle choices, while Dr. Joham Sarfraz Ali and Dr. Saba Masoud addressed the importance of quality sleep in maintaining mental and physical health. The day concluded with a poster competition and a Healthy Cuisine Exhibition, followed by a mini workshop series on “Empowering Everyday Choices.”
“Transformative Tuesday” featured a two-day Lifestyle Medicine webinar series, beginning with “Coaching Skills for Sustainable Change,” led by Dr. Saira Malik, a UK-based GP. The session aimed at healthcare professionals focused on integrating coaching techniques into patient care to improve preventive healthcare practices.
The series concluded on “Wellbeing Wednesday” with the session “From Burnout to Balance.” Led by Dr. Saania Bhatti, the session addressed physician burnout and offered strategies for mental health and resilience. The segment included open dialogue and Q and A, providing valuable insights into combating stress.
“Fulfilment and Fitness Friday” wrapped up the week with a seminar on “Lifestyle Medicine Essentials: From Inner Purpose to Lasting Change,” held at AFIC. Experts from preventive cardiology and lifestyle medicine discussed topics such as purpose-driven health and sustainable weight management.
The successful execution of Wellness Week 2025 marked a significant step in promoting preventive healthcare and holistic well-being within NUMS.
