Sri Lanka, 14 Oct 2023: Chamika Karunaratne has been approved by the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 to replace Dasun Shanaka in the Sri Lankan team. This decision comes in the wake of Shanaka’s right thigh muscle injury, sustained during a match against Pakistan on 10 October, which is anticipated to require three weeks of recovery.
Karunaratne, with a record of playing 23 ODIs, was selected as the substitute for the injured Shanaka. As per the regulations, any replacement in a team’s roster mandates the endorsement of the Event Technical Committee before the player can be formally integrated into the squad.
The Event Technical Committee for this year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup encompasses several notable figures including Wasim Khan (ICC General Manager – Cricket and ETC Chair), Chris Tetley (ICC Head of Events), Hemang Amin (Acting CEO – BCCI), Gaurav Saxena (General Manager – Operations, BCCI), Russel Arnold (Independent Representative), and Simon Doull (Independent Representative), as specified in the press release from ICC.
