Islamic Relief and IIUI Discuss Future Collaborations in Key Sectors

Islamabad: Islamic Relief Pakistan’s Country Director, Mr. Asif Ali Sherazi, met with Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, President of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), to explore potential collaborations focusing on social development, climate resilience, and academic engagement.

The discussions centered on enhancing cooperation between IIUI and Islamic Relief, particularly in the fields of social sciences, climate change management, and research initiatives. Mr. Sherazi emphasized Islamic Relief’s commitment to serving vulnerable communities, highlighting its ongoing work with various universities, both locally and globally, in the humanitarian and development sectors.

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed provided insights into IIUI’s research efforts, noting the university’s focus on social impact, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and climate change adaptation. He shared that IIUI has been actively engaged in climate-related projects for the past two years, emphasizing the university’s dedication to science and technology-based solutions aligned with national policies.

Attendees at the meeting included Muhammad Salim, Management Coordinator at Islamic Relief Pakistan, Mr. Ayaz Ali of IIUI, and Dr. Asadullah from the Faculty of Shariah & Law. The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding to pursue joint research ventures and community programs, and the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize future collaborations.

Mr. Sherazi also mentioned that Islamic Relief’s Global Director plans to visit IIUI soon, while Prof. Dr. Syed suggested a follow-up meeting to discuss formalizing collaborations through MoUs with the involvement of IIUI’s International Linkages Office.

Islamic Relief, established in Pakistan in 1992, operates in over 40 countries and is supported by major global entities, including the UN and World Bank, with a significant presence in humanitarian and advocacy work.
