Lahore: Injury concerns have emerged for Pakistan and New Zealand following their opening game in the tri-nation series in Lahore, with New Zealand clinching victory by 78 runs. Both teams are now facing potential setbacks with key players’ fitness ahead of the upcoming Champions Trophy.
According to a statement by International Cricket Council, New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra suffered a facial injury while fielding, and Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf sustained a side strain during his seventh over. New Zealand has confirmed that Ravindra is in good condition but will miss the next match against South Africa.
Rauf’s injury occurred in the 37th over of the first innings, as he clutched his knees after delivering the second ball, leaving the field shortly after. His absence was noted in Pakistan’s batting innings, where he did not participate.
Pakistan’s captain, Mohammad Rizwan, addressed Rauf’s condition in a post-match conference, indicating that while there was limited information on his availability for the next game, medical reports suggested the injury was not severe.
Ravindra’s injury took place in the 38th over of New Zealand’s innings while attempting a catch. The all-rounder was struck on the face after losing sight of the ball under the floodlights.
New Zealand is already dealing with injury issues, with Lockie Ferguson sidelined due to a hamstring injury sustained during the ILT20 in the UAE.
