Indian Bowler Arundhati Reddy Reprimanded for Code of Conduct Breach at Women’s T20 World Cup

Dubai: Indian pace bowler Arundhati Reddy was officially reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Group A match against Pakistan. The incident, which involved a gesture towards the pavilion after a dismissal, led to the addition of a demerit point to Reddy’s disciplinary record.

According to International Cricket Council, Reddy was found guilty of violating Article 2.5, which pertains to the use of language or gestures that could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal during an international match. This is Reddy’s first offence within a 24-month period, warranting a demerit point but avoiding a harsher penalty.

The occurrence took place in the 20th over of Pakistan’s innings following the dismissal of all-rounder Nida Dar. Reddy admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Shandre Fritz from the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, thereby negating the need for a formal hearing.

The charge was leveled by on-field umpires Eloise Sheridan and Lauren Agenbag, with support from third umpire Jacquline Williams and fourth umpire Claire Polosak. Level 1 breaches typically result in a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and can include up to 50 percent of a player’s match fee and one or two demerit points.
