HEC Forms Committee to Enhance Engineering Education in Pakistan


Lahore: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has formed a high-level committee to improve engineering education and research across the nation, appointing Dr. Shahid Munir, Vice Chancellor of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, to lead the initiative. The committee is tasked with developing comprehensive recommendations for reforms in the sector.



According to University of Engineering and Technology, a seminar titled “Reforms in Engineering Education and Research” was held at the University of Chakwal, where Dr. Munir participated as the committee chair. He was joined by a high-level delegation including the Director Studies, Director ORIC, and Director External Linkages. Discussions at the seminar addressed key challenges such as curriculum modernization, research promotion, and strengthening ties between academia and industry.



Dr. Farrukh Arsalan Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor of the University of Chakwal and a UET Lahore alumnus, welcomed the delegation and expressed his commitment to increasing collaboration between the institutions. An MoU was also signed between UET Lahore and the University of Chakwal to promote academic and research cooperation, including faculty exchange, joint research supervision, and student exchange programs.



Dr. Munir noted that the initiative aims to align reforms with modern engineering sector requirements and foster stronger national linkages among academic and research institutions.
