Bahawalpur, May 22, 2023 (PPI-OT): A national webinar was organized on the subject. This webinar was organized on the occasion of International Biodiversity Day. The keynote speakers included ZB Mirza, Pakistan’s leading biodiversity scientist, Rab Nawaz, WWF’s International Senior Expert on Area-Based Conservation. Other guest speakers include Devcom-Pakistan Executive Director Munir Ahmad, Islamia University Bahawalpur Director Cholistan Institute of Desert Studies (CIDS) Dr. Muhammad Abdullah, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Environmental Protection Specialist Aftab Hussain Bukhari, Marine Biodiversity Specialist Moazzam Khan. environmental protection expert Azhar Qureshi and other guest speakers. Mahrukh Khan, who graduated from National Defense University, participated.

Dr. Muhammad Abdullah said that the Cholistan desert is facing the challenge of rapidly increasing population, livestock and permanent housing. The government and the private sector are converting barren desert into arable land Which will wipe out all the species of the desert. Islamia University Bahawalpur has established Cholistan Institute of Desert Studies (CIDS) to explore and conserve natural resources and alleviate the sufferings of the people of Cholistan desert. Vice-Chancellor Engineer Prof. Dr. Athar Mehboob, who is heading the Inter-University Climate Change Consortium, is giving full guidance and patronage for the protection of the natural environment of the Cholistan desert. The Cholistan Institute of Desert Studies of Islamia University Bahawalpur has been equipped with modern equipment and the number of researchers has also been increased.
