An important Webinar on Science Diplomacy

Lahore, June 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):Science Diplomacy is an emerging concept that reflects humanity’s greatest challenges and some of its most promising opportunities which are regional and global. It is a broadway of describing how scientific teamwork between nations can solve human problems and improve international relationships. Considering the importance and potential of Science Diplomacy to advance Pakistan’s national interest and participate effectively in the global science and technology ecosystem, it is essential to create awareness of SD.

In this regard, the Pakistan Nuclear Society in collaboration with the Virtual University of Pakistan are presenting a webinar titled “Science Diplomacy” on June 25, 2021. This webinar will be presented in association with the Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan (MoFA).

Act as UVAS ambassadors, Vice-Chancellors urges foreign students

Lahore, June 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad has urged the foreign students to play the role of an ambassador of the university and attract more students from their respective countries for getting education at UVAS.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad was chairing a meeting with the UVAS’s foreign students on Wednesday. Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani, Dean Faculty of Biosciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, Chairman Department of Parasitology Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf and Treasurer Muhammad Umar were also present on the occasion. The UVAS foreign students are from Nepal, Somalia, Mauritius, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Benin.

The Vice-Chancellor advised the foreign UVAS students to work hard and prepare for a better and successful professional life. He also advised all students to strictly follow corona SOPs to curb the pandemic. He also sought suggestions from the foreign students to identify the areas needing any improvement in education.

Prof Dr Masood Rabbani sought guidance for enhancing education quality. Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf said that they are always available for the facilitating of students to resolve their issues while Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman said that it is the best time for all students to learn knowledge, skills and each other’s culture.

IRD MOU with Turkish University

Islamabad, June 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Mevlana Exchange Program (MEP) on Wednesday was inked between the Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IRD) of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) and Duzce University Turkey.

The MoU was signed by the Rector, IIUI Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai who is also the Chairman-IRD and his counterpart Prof. Dr. Nigar D. Cakar, Rector, Duzce University, Turkey. The MEP is a famous fellowship opportunity which is globally known and considered a reputable exchange program for both students and faculty. Both institutions, IRD-IIUI and Duzce University, agreed on student and academic staff exchange under MEP.

The MoU details three fellowships for students and two for faculty in the Departments of Biological Sciences, Physics, Informatics and Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Politics and International Relations, Education Sciences, Sociology, Religious Studies and English Language Teaching. The students under the MEP will be able to spend 05-10 Months as Exchange Fellows, whereas, the faculty will be able to avail 01 week to 03 months in exchange duration.

Speaking on the occasion, IIU Rector said it is the age of interdisciplinary approach, we need to compete the world and it is imperative to broaden our academic spheres by mingling with the universities across the world. He said educational institutions are the ray of hope as societies are looking towards them as solution providers. It is time to respond and deliver to the society, through joint venture of science and research we may address the prevalent issues. He hailed the development of MoU and hoped it would be milestone to open new horizons of academic excellence.

Prof. Dr. Nigar D. Cakar, Rector, Duzce University said on the occasion that the MEP is a purely academic exchange opportunity for students and faculty at both ends, Pakistan and Turkey. She also apprised about the activities, vision and faculties of the university as well.

The signing ceremony was hosted by IRD at old campus. On the occasion, Executive Director-IRD Dr. Husnul Amin presented brief features of the MoU. The ceremony was also attended by Dr. Sibel Bayram representative Duzce University, Turkey. Vice President Academies, Dr. Ayaz Afsar, Dr. Muhammad Tahir Khalily and Director ORIC-IIUI Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed.

Punjab University, University of Lahore sign MoU

Lahore, June 22, 2021 (PPI-OT): Punjab University Remote Sensing, GIS and Climatic Research Lab (RSGCRL) and University of Lahore, Department of Physics have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The purpose of the MoU is to develop institutional linkages that will serve as a continuous and consistent support in the execution of all other activities. The focal persons of MoU are Dr. Salman Tariq from RSGCRL and Dr. Sadia Sagar Iqbal from DoP.

The two institutes will collaborate in developing joint research proposals and data sharing, organization of conferences, seminars and workshops, providing mentorship and learning opportunities to the students and young professionals and their involvement through internships and research theses in the fields of atmospheric physics and chemistry, air pollution, meteorology and climate change by employing satellite remote sensing and GIS technologies.

Dr. Zia ul Haq, Director/Principal Investigator RSGCRL and Dr. Sadia Sagar Iqbal, HoD DoP singed the MoU endorsed by PU VC Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar and Professor Dr. Muhammad Zuber, Rector University of Lahore.

UCP Vaccination Centre Announcement

Lahore, June 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):
Dear UCP Community,

We are excited to share that COVID Vaccination Centre has been set up for your convenience inside the UCP campus. For those of you who have not been vaccinated, we welcome you for vaccination starting from tomorrow at Auditorium, Building A. The vaccination drive will be active 6 days a week (except Sunday) from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Please note the step-by-step guide for your convenience:

Step One: Visit the student verification desk placed next to the auditorium entrance

Step Two: Enter the auditorium and take a seat in the waiting area and patiently wait for your turn

Step Three: On your turn, visit one of the registration desks placed on the main stage with your CNIC

Step Four: Enter the backstage where the screening and vaccination counters have been set up and get your shot

Step Five: Exit backstage into the main auditorium and rest for a while on the seats

Step Six: Exit the auditorium from the back exit point

It is mandatory for all students to get vaccinated.

Please keep yourself well hydrated, carry a water bottle and make sure to eat something light before you visit the campus for your vaccination shot.
