Bangladesh and Pakistan Cricketers Climb ICC Rankings After World Cup Qualifiers

Lahore: In a significant development following the recent World Cup Qualifier tournament held in Pakistan, cricketers from Bangladesh and Pakistan have seen notable improvements in their international rankings. This comes as a result of their successful qualification for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, further enhancing their standing in the latest ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings.

Both Bangladesh and Pakistan secured their spots in the upcoming 50-over event by finishing in the top two positions during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2025. Several players from these teams have been acknowledged in the rankings update.

Among the top performers, Bangladesh’s left-arm spinner Nahida Akter has climbed two places to reach 10th overall on the ODI bowlers’ rankings. Her career-high rating follows an impressive haul of six wickets during the Qualifier.

In Pakistan, spinner Sadia Iqbal achieved a new career-best rating by moving up five spots to 17th in the ODI bowler rankings after claiming nine wickets at the tournament. Her teammates, Fatima Sana and Diana Baig, also made advancements, reaching equal 27th and 35th positions, respectively.

Despite the West Indies narrowly missing out on a top-two finish, their all-rounder Hayley Matthews remains in the top 10 of the ODI bowler rankings, holding the ninth position. Matthews was the leading wicket-taker at the Qualifiers, with 13 wickets to her name. Her efforts also propelled her two spots up to fifth in the ODI batters’ rankings, supported by a total of 240 runs.

Additional ranking improvements were noted for Ireland’s Gaby Lewis, who advanced five places to 17th among ODI batters, and Pakistan veteran Sidra Amin, who rose five positions to 18th. Sharmin Akhter of Bangladesh and Ireland’s Amy Hunter also saw significant gains, moving up to 21st and 27th, respectively.

Scotland captain Kathryn Bryce, named Player of the Tournament, reached a career-best rating by advancing eight spots to equal 35th among ODI batters. She also improved 13 positions to 30th in the rankings for ODI all-rounders. Ireland’s Orla Prendergast and Pakistan’s Sana were among the notable gainers in this category, climbing to 11th and equal 15th, respectively.
