Lahore: Azan Ahmed has been appointed as captain of Pakistan's U17 cricket team for their upcoming series against Sri Lanka in Multan next month. The series will comprise one three-day match and five one-day encounters, all of which are scheduled to take place at the Multan Cricket Stadium from October 9 to October 24.

According to Pakistan Cricket Board, the Sri Lankan team is expected to arrive on October 5. Both teams will engage in practice sessions at the stadium from October 6 to 8. Azan, 17, a right-arm leg-spinner, previously represented Rawalpindi U17 in the National Men's U17 Cup, where he claimed 36 wickets in eight matches. His leadership was instrumental in Rawalpindi's victory over Abbottabad in the tournament final held in May.

Following the tournament, 48 players were selected for the U17 Skills Development Camp in Faisalabad, starting in July. From these, 30 players were shortlisted for further training. The final squad for the series, including four reserve players, all participated in the National Men's U17 Cup.

The 16-member squad includes Azan Ahmed (captain), Abdullah Ahmed Butt, Arsalan Hassan, Daud Tauqeer Rana, Fahad Iqbal, Hamid Raza, Hamza Abbas Baloch, Hassan Ali, Mohammad Essa Baloch, Mohammad Ihsaan, Mohammad Naveed, Mohammad Saim, Mohammad Yaqoob Khan, Mohammad Yousaf, Sher Wali Khan, and Sudais Ahmed. Reserve players are Ammar Khan, Imad Ali Shah, Nafees Akhtar, and Saqib Khan.
