IRD and Karakoram International University inks MoU, Agree to Extend Cooperation

Islamabad, June 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IRD) of International Islamic University (IIU) and Karakoram International University (KIU) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to cooperate with each other in the promotion of education.

According to the MoU, both universities will cooperate in the field of training and capacity building of youth and other professionals in the fields of Social Sciences, Islamic Studies, law, economics, teaching, education and community work to promote peace, tolerance, harmony, unity, intra-faith dialogues and counter-narrative to reduce conflicts in the society.

The signing ceremony hosted by IRD was held at KIU. On behalf of IRD, Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, Rector, IIUI while Prof. Dr. Attaullah Shah, Vice-Chancellor, KIU signed the MoU. In pursuance of MoU, the IRD and KIU would jointly explore new avenues particularly in the areas of publications, research and training. The MoU would pave the way to mutual cooperation, exchange of material and literature and joint conferences and seminars.

The ceremony was also attended by Dr. Husnul Amin, Executive Director-IRD, Dr. Tasawar Baig, Dean, FSS, KIU, Director ORIC KIU, Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Director ORIC, IIUI, Dr. Sadia, Chairperson, Department of IR, KIU and other officials.

First Aid Training Session held at Female Campus

Islamabad, June 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):Female Medical Centre in collaboration with Female Provost Hostel conducted a First-Aid training session at the female campus hostels. It was attended by officers, staff and students. Doctors and medical staff elaborated the basic First-Aid skills through videos as well as through actual demonstration.

This session was organized to provide safety to patients until medical assistance arrives and to help staff and students to deal any such hazardous and life threatening situation. Dr. Humaira Ishfaq, Provost Hostels thanked for the efforts of Dr. Asia, Dr. Sidra, Dr. Sabeen and the whole medical team. She termed it a valuable and most important activity while calling upon more awareness in this regard.

Call to help thalassemia children

Lahore, June 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):Punjab Minister for Social Welfare and Baitul Mall Syed Yawar Abbas has called upon the society to help children suffering from thalassemia as it was the responsibility of every human being to safeguard their future and reduce the problems being faced by them. He was addressing a ceremony and blood donation camp for the children suffering from thalassemia at Punjab University.

Punjab Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Mr Ejaz Alam Augustine, PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Saleem Mazhar, senior journalist Sohail Warraich, Hasan Nisar, eminent artist Khalid Abbas Dar, motivational speaker Qasim Ali Shah, Registrar Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan, Department of Social Work Chairperson Prof Dr Syeda Mehnaz Hasan, Members of Punjab Assembly including Dr Shaheena, Uzma Kardar, Dr Sambia, Sabeen Kamran, Shahida, Sania Kamran, Seemab, Tanzila Imran, President Sundus Foundation Mr Yasin, , faculty members and a large number of students participated in the event.

Addressing the event, Syed Yawar Abbas said that we were facing the same test which the children suffering from thalassemia were facing that what we did for the children to help reduce their problems? He said that the act of blood donation was indeed a great act of kindness and it brought us closer to Allah. Mr Ejaz Alam said that the government was making efforts to help poor children and improve their standard of life. He said that the government was also taking action against those forcing the children for beggary.

PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed said that it was our prime responsibility to organize such events to help ailing humanity. He appreciated the role of Dr Mehnaz and her team for providing food to the poor people during COVID 19. He said that knowledge and skills were important but the behaviours were more important. He said that teachers must play an active role to bring positive change in behaviour of society members. Sohail Warraich said that children suffering from thalassemia hardly reached the age of 15 and they needed blood on a regular basis.

He praised the role of Sundus Foundation which helped reduce the miseries being faced by the children. Chairperson Dr Syeda Mehnaz Hasan thanked PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed for providing full support in order to launch social welfare projects and organize social welfare activities. She thanked the volunteers who donated blood for the children suffering from thalassemia.

She said that the world had controlled the disease of thalassemia to a great extent but the situation in Pakistan was not so good. She called upon the parliamentarians to ensure thalassemia test of couples before marriage through institutions. Qasim Ali Shah said that life was just like a story and everyone should do such good deeds so that one could be remembered in good words. On this occasion, the teams of Punjab University and Sundus Foundation presented national anthems and a sketch to highlight issues being faced by the children.

Ambassador of Yemen calls on IIUI President

Islamabad, June 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):Ambassador of Yemen to Pakistan, H.E. Mohammed Motahar Alashabi called on H.E. Hathal Homoud Alotaibi, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) at his office. Both the Ambassador and IIUI President agreed upon bilateral cooperation in the field of education. Honourable Ambassador appreciated the services of IIUI and said that it is one of the vital educational institutions of Muslim world.

Dr. Hathal said during the meeting that university is keen to hold joint ventures with varsities across the world and it is focused on raising standards of education, research and society service. Delegation headed by EU Parliamentary Project IP5 team leader Christopher Shields calls on Speaker Ch Parvez Elahi

Lahore, June 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):A three-member delegation headed by European Union Parliamentary Project IP5 team leader Christopher Shields called on Punjab Assembly Speaker Ch Parvez Elahi at the Speaker’s Chambers here today (Wednesday). Delegation included former Secretary Senate of Pakistan, Deputy Team Leader IP5 Dr Syed Pervaiz Abbas and Senior Advisor IP5 Ms Nadia Batool.

During the meeting views were exchanged about continuation of democratic system in Pakistan, strengthening of the institutions and supremacy of the parliament as well as matters of personal interest. Christopher Shields is an experienced parliamentary democratic practitioner in Pakistan. The Speaker conducted the delegation on a visit around the new building of the Punjab and the House. He acquainted the delegation about the history of the assembly, rules of procedure and parliamentary traditions as well as the legislation in the Punjab Assembly.

Christopher Shields felicitated Ch Parvez Elahi on completion of new House of the Punjab Assembly. Ch Parvez Elahi said that the European Union should play its effective role in making the Punjab Assembly E-Parliament, organizing training workshops and seminars for enhancing the capacity of the MPAs and strengthening of the committees. Speaker Punjab Assembly also appreciated the cooperation of the European Union in education, health and other sectors. On this occasion Secretary Punjab Assembly Mohammad Khan Bhatti and DG Parliamentary Affairs Inayatullah Lak were also present.

Central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh CCA coaches for inter-city tournament announced

Lahore, June 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Cricket Board today announced coaches of the 19 City Cricket Association sides of Central Punjab, 17 sides of Sindh and 19 sides of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the City Cricket Association Tournament 2021-22, which will commence next month. The remaining coaches of three Cricket Associations (Balochistan, Northern, Southern Punjab) will be announced during the course of the week.

Last week, the PCB announced squads of all 93 sides of the City Cricket Associations.

The inter-city tournament will be a pathway for selection in the Cricket Association sides for the four-day first-class, non first-class three-day, 50-over and 20-over competitions in the PCB Domestic Season 2021-22, which will commence in September.

According to the event format, each match will be of two days with 100 overs to be bowled each day in seven hours and 20 minutes of play with a two-hour break from 1200-1400. To encourage positive and result-oriented cricket, first innings will be limited to 75 overs per side and no bowler shall bowl more than 15 overs in an innings.

The coaches have been selected following a robust and transparent recruitment process.

In the first phase, the posts for CCA coaches were advertised and later their CVs were received physically and also on an online portal. A four-member selection panel comprising of Saqlain Mushtaq (Head of International Player Development NHPC), Grant Bradburn (Head of High Performance Coaching NHPC), Umer Rashid (Coach NHPC) and an official from the HR Department PCB was constituted.

In the second phase, candidates were interviewed and shortlisted (approximately 3) from each City Cricket Associations and their names along with recommendations from the selection panel were forwarded to the PCB Domestic Department.

In third phase, the lists of all the candidates including the shortlisted ones along with the recommended candidate of the selection panel was shared with the respective Chairman of each Cricket Associations, who did the final evaluation based on the markings of the selection panel.

After their approval, it was sent to PCB CEO and PCB COO for their approvals.

In the last phase, the lists were sent to the PCB Security department for final vetting.

The following are the 55 coaches of City Cricket Associations. The remaining 38 coaches of City Cricket Associations will be announced in the coming week.
