Aga Khan University’s 12th International Conference Spotlights Fusion of Technology and Education

Karachi, The Aga Khan University’s Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED) marked the conclusion of its 12th International Conference, which delved into the themes of ‘Technology, Pedagogy, And Society.’ Coinciding with the University’s 40th anniversary, the conference provided a platform for critical appreciation and discussion on current educational practices and future prospects.

According to Aga Khan University, the event brought together a diverse array of thought leaders, policymakers, and practitioners to explore the critical intersection of technology, pedagogy, and society. Ms. Rana Hussain, Caretaker Minister for School Education, College Education, and Women Empowerment, Sindh, inaugurated the session, highlighting the necessity of discussing technology’s societal impacts.

Keynote speakers Sean Michael Morris, Dr. Asadul Islam, and Dr. Shah Jamal Alam contributed insights into the evolution of digital pedagogy and the role of formal reasoning in an AI-dominated era. The conference featured panel discussions on implementing EdTech reform and fostering equitable learning spaces, addressing vital concerns about the influence of technology in education.

Over 200 participants engaged in more than 40 workshops on various topics, including digital teaching methods, educational robotics, and creating equitable learning environments. Dr. Maha Bali’s keynote on equitable learning spaces and Dr. Nauman Naqvi’s Lightning Talk were among the highlights, spurring discussions on transforming educational practices for inclusivity and sustainable existence.

The conference emphasized the transformative potential of reshaping educational practices, evaluating technology-supported instruction, addressing ethical concerns of emerging technologies, and assessing implications for workforce development. This event showcased the importance of pedagogical leadership in navigating the complexities of technology in education, highlighting the intricate connections between practice, research, and implementation contexts.
