Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has called for the further strengthening of Pakistan-Germany relations, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, and defence. This was discussed during a meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador-designate of Pakistan to Germany, Mr. Salman Sharif, at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, President Zardari emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral trade and business engagement, noting Germany as Pakistan's largest export destination within the European Union. The meeting also highlighted the upcoming 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations in 2026 as an opportunity to deepen cooperation.
The President underscored the need for continued defence collaboration and urged for a timely consideration of Pakistan's pending requests. He also pointed out the significance of skilled labour mobility between the countries.
Additionally, President Zardari mentioned Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif's invitation to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to visit Pakistan, expressing hope for a future visit at a convenient time for both parties.
During the meeting, President Zardari congratulated Mr. Salman Sharif on his new role and expressed confidence in his ability to further enhance relations between Pakistan and Germany. The meeting was also attended by Senator Sherry Rehman, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, and former Federal Minister Syed Naveed Qamar.
