Lucknow: India captain Shreyas Iyer has made a significant leap in the ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings, climbing 18 places to secure the seventh spot among T20I batters following his maiden century in the format against the West Indies. This ascent marks the first time Iyer has entered the top 10 in his international career.
According to International Cricket Council, Iyer's standout performance in the series opener in Lucknow was instrumental in propelling him into the upper echelons of T20I batting ranks. India now boasts four players in the top 10 for T20I batters, with Ishan Kishan leading the pack, followed by Abhishek Sharma, Iyer, and Tilak Varma.
The rankings update also brought changes for West Indies players and bowlers globally. Sherfane Rutherford's half-century in the final match against India helped him rise 10 places to 37th among T20I batters. Meanwhile, in the bowling domain, Rashid Khan of Afghanistan has overtaken Pakistan's Abrar Ahmed to become the top-ranked T20I bowler.
In the ODI rankings, India's Shubman Gill extended his lead as the number one batter after an unbeaten 223 against the West Indies in Guwahati. West Indies captain Shai Hope improved to sixth, while India's KL Rahul entered the top 10. On the bowling side, West Indies' Jayden Seales achieved a career-high ranking by rising to 10th.
Additionally, USA's Milind Kumar reached a career-best 10th place among ODI all-rounders, following his notable century against the UAE in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 competition.
