Karachi: Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, emphasized the significance of democracy as a fundamental right of the people to select their leaders, influence their future, and hold those in authority accountable.

According to a press release issued by Media Cell Bilawal House, in his address on the occasion of World Democracy Day, observed on September 15, Bhutto Zardari remarked on the sacrifices made by democratic forces and political workers in Pakistan. He stated that these efforts have sustained democracy despite attempts to undermine it. Bhutto Zardari highlighted the contributions of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, who dedicated their lives to empowering citizens and fortifying democratic institutions, underscoring that no power can indefinitely suppress the people's voice.

Bhutto Zardari reiterated the PPP's commitment to advocating for democracy, constitutional supremacy, social justice, equality, and the people's rights. He urged democratic entities to unite against authoritarian tendencies and protect the Constitution, Parliament, and the electoral rights of the populace. He noted Pakistan's historical challenges with anti-democratic forces, which, often aided by external influences, have tried to disrupt the democratic framework and infringe on fundamental rights. Bhutto Zardari called for a reaffirmation of the commitment to uphold the democratic legacy and ensure the primacy of the people's mandate.
