Mackay: Australian pacer Mitchell Starc has ascended to the top of the ICC Men's Test Bowler Rankings, marking the first time in his 15-year career that he has achieved this prestigious position. This development ends Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah's reign as the No.1 ranked Test bowler, a spot he held for much of the past two years.

According to International Cricket Council, Starc's rise to the premier position comes after his impressive performance against Bangladesh, where he collected 10 wickets in the second Test match held in Mackay. Bumrah, who first claimed the top spot in February 2024, has been absent from India's current ICC World Test Championship series against Sri Lanka, which contributed to his drop to second place.

Starc's recent performances have been pivotal in his ranking trajectory. His achievements against England in the Ashes series last year helped him secure a place in the top three. With this latest accomplishment, Starc has overtaken both Bumrah and New Zealand's Matt Henry, who now ranks third. Starc's Australian teammate, Pat Cummins, also made a move up the rankings, securing the fourth position after taking six wickets in the match against Bangladesh.

The rankings saw movements beyond the top three bowlers. England's Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue made significant gains following their performances against Pakistan, with Robinson advancing to 11th place and Tongue to 17th. In the Test batter rankings, India's Rishabh Pant climbed to seventh place after a strong showing against Sri Lanka, while England's Harry Brook and Joe Root retained the top two positions.

In the rankings for Test all-rounders, India's Ravindra Jadeja continues to hold the No.1 spot, with Cummins, Cameron Green, and Robinson making slight upward movements in the standings.
