Karachi: The Aga Khan University (AKU) recently concluded the President's Challenge for Climate Solutions 2025, highlighting the achievements of students who offered innovative solutions to climate and food system challenges. The event celebrated the theme "Bite into Change: Reimagining Food Systems for a Better Tomorrow," with participation from AKU campuses in Pakistan, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

According to Aga Khan University, this year's competition attracted 442 students forming 122 teams, with 331 students in 88 teams reaching the Ideation Workshop stage. Participants engaged in workshops, received mentorship, and presented final pitches to experts. The top 14 teams advanced to the Final Idea Pitch Round with solutions targeting issues such as food waste reduction, agricultural productivity enhancement, and improved food distribution.

The closing ceremony honored top-performing teams from each campus, culminating in the announcement of the overall winners. The winning team, PK-010: AKU Dabbawala from Pakistan, included members Muqadasa Faqiri, Samrin Alam, Anisa Khan, and Nadia Afsheen. Team UG-006: Food Fixers from Uganda secured the first runner-up position, followed by Team KN-013: Mazao Resilience Operating System from Kenya as the second runner-up.

Organizers noted a shift in participants' mindsets towards designing practical, scalable climate solutions. The challenge continues to empower students as innovators and changemakers for a sustainable future. As the 2025 edition concludes, anticipation builds for the next theme announcement, offering further opportunities for impactful climate action.
