LAHORE: The provincial government is set to introduce the first-ever commercial policy for universities following Cabinet approval, a move aimed at strengthening the financial infrastructure of higher education institutions. Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat Khan announced the initiative, along with plans to boost funding for universities this year, during the inauguration of a new water filtration plant at the University of the Punjab's School of Chemistry.

According to University of the Punjab, the event saw participation from key figures, including PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Muhammad Ali and Savour Foods CEO Muhammad Naeem, among others. Rana Sikandar Hayat Khan highlighted that the financial situation of the University of the Punjab has seen significant improvement over the past two years, attributing part of the success to the increase in university-owned agricultural land and a noteworthy rise in revenue. The minister praised the Vice Chancellor for his effective leadership in overcoming financial challenges and emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in launching welfare initiatives such as the newly installed water filtration plant.

Prof Dr. Muhammad Ali reiterated the university's commitment to complete projects focused on the welfare of its community, while Savour Foods CEO Muhammad Naeem assured continued support for student welfare initiatives, including the maintenance of the new plant.
