KARACHI: The comedy theatre play "Bhaley" was staged on the third day of the Wes-Dhaari Sindhi Theatre Festival 2026 at the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, drawing a substantial audience, including President Arts Council Muhammad Ahmed Shah. The play was met with enthusiastic applause for the performances by a talented cast. Written by Sohrab Soomro and directed by Ali Gul Mallah, "Bhaley" features actors Ali Gul Mallah, Amjad Gul, Laiba, Abdullah Mallah, and Sher Dil.
According to Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, President Muhammad Ahmed Shah highlighted the significance of Sindhi and Urdu theatre in preserving cultural identity. He emphasized the need for equal opportunities and further promotion of theatre in both languages, noting that Sindhi theatre mirrors the culture, traditions, and social life of the region. Shah also remarked on the importance of continuously promoting Urdu theatre and providing platforms for young artists to develop their talents.
The narrative of "Bhaley" centers around a retired officer whose stubborn nature leads to comedic situations as those around him manipulate circumstances with contradictory statements. The plot thickens when the officer insists on marrying his daughter to a servant, only for the daughter to marry a college fellow of her choice. The play concludes with a message advocating for parents to respect their children's wishes and future happiness.
