Lahore: In the 2008 general elections, Punjab recorded a voter turnout of 47.9% for its Provincial Assembly, with 21.37 million votes cast from a registered voter base of 44.65 million. This turnout reflects the significant electoral role Punjab plays in shaping the national political landscape, as the province holds the largest share of Pakistan’s registered electorate.

According to Free and Fair Election Network, Punjab's registered voters in 2008 were comprised of 24.57 million males (55.0%) and 20.07 million females (45.0%), highlighting a gender gap of 4.50 million. Despite this, gender-disaggregated voting data was not available for the 2008 elections, as such records were not systematically kept before 2018.

The election saw 670,924 ballots rejected, accounting for 3.1% of the total votes polled, the highest rejection rate recorded in Punjab since 1990. The province's historical voter turnout has varied, peaking at 62.1% in 1970 and dipping to a low of 39.5% in 1997, illustrating shifts in electoral engagement over decades. The growing electorate, rising from 16.4 million in 1970 to 73.2 million by 2024, underscores both demographic changes and expanded voter registration.
