PU Launches First AI-Based Admission Assistant Chatbot

LAHORE: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Muhammad Ali has inaugurated the university's first artificial intelligence-based chatbot designed to guide prospective students on admissions and other university-related matters. The launch event was attended by key university figures, including Chairman Admission Committee Prof Dr. Mahmood Saleem and Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology Prof Dr. Shahzad Sarwar.

According to University of the Punjab, the new web-based chatbot represents a pioneering effort by a public-sector university to provide an automated assistant for the general public. Prof Dr. Muhammad Ali highlighted the development as a significant accomplishment and emphasized the university's commitment to supporting students and admission seekers. He also instructed that the chatbot's services be expanded to other departments within the institution.

During the briefing, Prof Dr. Shahzad Sarwar explained that the chatbot was developed using university resources and within a short timeframe. It will offer guidance in multiple languages, including English, Urdu, and Roman Urdu, assisting applicants with information on eligibility criteria, admission tests, hostel facilities, and program requirements. The AI-powered tool will also provide details about scholarships, financial assistance, and quota-based admission schemes, ensuring candidates are well-informed about important university updates.
